Tokyo’s capsule toy obsession has reached dazzling new heights. The Gacha Gacha Exhibition Award 2026 has officially taken over Roppongi, bringing together hundreds of tiny treasures in what’s being called Japan’s largest gacha exhibit yet. If you’ve ever found yourself digging for ¥100 coins just for “one more spin,” this is your playground.

A Capsule Toy Wonderland

Capsule toys, known locally as gachapon or gacha gacha, have become one of Japan’s most beloved pop culture phenomena. What started as simple coin-operated vending machines dispensing small plastic toys has evolved into a world of surprisingly detailed miniatures, clever parody items and highly collectible designs.

The Gachagacha Exhibition in Roppongi celebrates this uniquely Japanese obsession on an unprecedented scale, bringing together the creativity, craftsmanship and sheer fun that make capsule toys so irresistible to locals and travelers alike.

Held at the stylish Roppongi Museum, the exhibition showcases creations from 13 capsule toy makers across Japan. This year’s lineup even welcomes two fresh faces to the scene — Ikimon and Benelic — adding new creative energy to the already star-studded roster of gachapon brands.

From ultra-detailed miniature food and nostalgic everyday items to adorable creatures and wonderfully offbeat designs, the event highlights just how imaginative Japan’s capsule toy world can be. Around 200 machines are lined up at the venue, some stocked with rare or limited-edition items that may tempt you into more than a few spins.

Celebrating Gacha Gacha Day

The exhibition also coincides with Gacha Gacha Day, which commemorates the arrival of Japan’s very first capsule toy machine from the United States. To celebrate the occasion, the highly anticipated Gacha Gacha Exhibition Grand Prize will be presented on February 17.

And here’s the fun part: visitors get to decide the winner. Guests can vote for their favorite capsule toy on display, helping crown the year’s top design and, in a way, becoming part of gacha history themselves.

Why You Shouldn’t Miss It

Gachapon machines are everywhere in Japan — from train stations to shopping malls — but rarely do you see them gathered on this scale. This exhibit isn’t just about collecting; it’s about honoring the design, humor and craftsmanship that turn tiny plastic capsules into objects of joy.

It’s playful. It’s nostalgic. And yes, it’s dangerously fun for your coin purse.
