For anime, manga, and Japanese pop culture enthusiasts, Comiket is one of the biggest events you should add to your Tokyo travel bucket list.
Also known as Comic Market, Comiket features thousands of doujinshi circles, anime merchandise, cosplay, and original works by independent creators from across Japan.
What Is Comiket Japan?

Comiket, short for Comic Market, is Japan's largest doujinshi convention, first held in 1975.
The event focuses on the sale of doujinshi (self-published works), including manga, illustrations, novels, indie games, and creator-made merchandise.
In addition to fan-made works, Comiket also features cosplay areas, anime company booths, and exclusive merchandise that is only available during the event.
Comiket is held twice a year—once in summer and once in winter—at Tokyo Big Sight. It has become one of the largest gatherings of otaku culture in Japan, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world.
Why Is Comiket So Popular?

Comiket is famous for its massive scale and the unique experience it offers to fans of anime, manga, gaming, and cosplay. Many professional Japanese illustrators and manga artists also began their careers by showcasing their works at Comiket.
Besides hunting for rare doujinshi and exclusive merchandise, visitors come to enjoy the vibrant cosplay scene and immerse themselves in Japan's unique pop culture atmosphere.
Many major anime companies release limited-edition merchandise exclusively for Comiket, making the event highly anticipated by fans worldwide.
Comiket is also well known for its long queues. Many attendees arrive early in the morning to secure their favorite merchandise before it sells out.
