Celebrate Spring in Osaka at the Ogimachi Sakura Festival with Sakura Lanterns

Experience the Ogimachi Sakura Festival 2026 in Osaka with glowing sky lanterns, illuminated cherry blossoms, live performances, and festive food stalls

Spring in Osaka will shine a little brighter this year as the Ogimachi Sakura Festival returns with a magical nighttime experience featuring glowing cherry blossom lanterns. Held at Ogimachi Park in Osaka’s Kita Ward, the three-day event will take place from April 3 to April 5, 2026, inviting visitors to celebrate the arrival of sakura with light, music, and seasonal festivities.

The festival transforms the popular cherry blossom spot into a lively spring gathering where guests can enjoy hanami (flower viewing) alongside a range of entertainment and cultural experiences. During the day, visitors can relax beneath blooming cherry trees, while the evening brings a completely different atmosphere filled with illuminated blossoms and glowing lanterns.

Sakura-Colored Lanterns Light Up the Night

One of the highlights of the event is the release of sakura-colored LED sky lanterns, which create a dreamy scene above the park. As the lanterns rise, their soft pink glow resembles cherry blossom petals drifting through the night sky, adding a unique visual element to the traditional hanami experience.

For environmental safety, the lanterns are attached to strings and weights, allowing participants to lift them into the air and later retrieve them rather than letting them float away. Lantern participation requires a voucher priced at around 4,400 yen (about $27.67 USD), though visitors can still enjoy watching the lantern display and other festival activities for free.

Illuminated Sakura and Live Performances

As night falls, the cherry trees across Ogimachi Park will be bathed in soft lighting, creating a romantic and atmospheric setting quite different from daytime flower viewing. This nighttime illumination is open to all guests and offers a perfect opportunity for evening strolls under the blossoms.

The festival will also feature live performances, including traditional Japanese instrument music and energetic street performances on a central stage. These shows combine cultural elements with lively entertainment, adding rhythm and excitement to the spring celebration.

Food, Drinks, and Festival Fun

Beyond the lanterns and performances, the Ogimachi Sakura Festival offers plenty to explore throughout the park. A lineup of food trucks and gourmet stalls will serve a variety of festival treats, while a beer garden and traditional festival games create a relaxed and festive atmosphere for visitors of all ages.

Families can also enjoy nostalgic Japanese festival activities such as ring toss and other classic games, making the event suitable for both couples and families looking to spend time together during cherry blossom season.
